3. Mike Fiers

For a while, Mike Fiers would have safely held down the No. 4 spot on these rankings if not the No. 5. But after a treacherous trio of terrible starts in April, the veteran has completely turned his season around with a stellar month of May so far.

And of course, we can’t talk about Fiers’ 2019 season without mentioning his incredible 131-pitch no-hitter over a week ago that put him in some elite company. Pitching a no-hitter in a career is rare, but pitching two no-hitters is even rarer. Fiers might just be the most unlikely of players to ever throw two no-hitters in a career.

But it doesn’t matter how you slice it up, Fiers accomplished just that.

The former Milwaukee Brewers hurler has seen his ERA plummet to just over 5.00 after it neared a whopping 8.30 just under a month ago. The no-no certainly helped, but Fiers has given up three or fewer runs in each of his last four starts including a seven-inning, two-run performance back on April 26th.

Unfortunately, his team has only won one of those starts — that being the day of the no-hitter — but his excellent play hasn’t gone unnoticed. If Fiers can continue to turn his season around, he could continue to be a valued piece of the A’s rotation — something that seemed far-fetched given his start to the season.
