Oakland Athletics: Power ranking each member of the starting rotation
By Justin Fried
4. Brett Anderson
Earlier in the season, Brett Anderson would have undoubtedly been higher up on this list. But after a recent string of subpar outings, he’s slipped to No. 4 on our list.
Anderson started the season red hot pitching a six-inning shutout in his first outing of the season and posting an excellent 2.62 ERA through his first four starts. However, the 31-year-old has recorded just one quality start in his last five outings and has seen his ERA balloon to 4.41.
He hasn’t exactly been a mess, but he’s hasn’t been able to keep up the same level of success from earlier in the season. Still, the A’s have managed to win in two of his last three starts so his lack of success on the mound hasn’t exactly impacted the success of the team.
Anderson will head back on the road to face the Cleveland Indians on Monday and the lefty will undoubtedly be looking to change the A’s road fortunes. Oakland is just 6-15 on the road this season as playing away from the Coliseum has proven to be a difficult challenge so far this year.
For now, Anderson should remain a regular fixture of the A’s rotation and serve as the team’s only lefty starter.
