San Francisco 49ers: Predicting the 3 most likely breakout players in 2019
All of the key phases in the NFL offseason are said and done with for the San Francisco 49ers. With no major event left until the regular season let’s take a look at who the breakout players will be in 2019 for the 49ers.
Is it the NFL regular season yet?
That’s pretty much all we’re going to be asking and have to look forward to with the NFL now that free agency and the draft are in the books. It kind of makes you regret slandering all of the baseless mock drafts that were put out there (not really). Feeling impatient for the 2019 regular season is normal.
It’s especially going to be a drag for the San Francisco 49ers and their fans. Considering the offseason they had, it finally feels like they’re ready to make the big leap. Just thinking about that is so much better than looking ahead to the rest of the offseason.
At this point in the offseason, it’s just OTAs or any random breaking news. Teams won’t be looking to add many players or transactions.
There is nothing major that should occur from here until training camp. So how about we take a look at who the three most likely breakout players in 2019 will be for the San Francisco 49ers?
QB Jimmy Garoppolo
Entering the 2018 NFL season, the hype surrounding the San Francisco 49ers was that they were a team that could compete with anybody. That was until quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo tore his ACL on a scramble play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3.
Now that he has recovered and the team has added pieces, along with this being head coach Kyle Shanahan’s third season, the hype has resurfaced similarly to 2018. The only way that hype will be able to hold any weight is if Garoppolo has a breakout season.
The 49ers can only fully operate so long as Jimmy is out there. Not to mention that Garoppolo is being paid the big bucks to produce. It’s mandatory that he plays at a high level in 2019.
There will be no excuses as he has another year under Shanahan’s system, as well as the multiple additions to the offense. The supporting cast is strong enough and if all goes well the sky is the limit. Garoppolo’s ceiling could very well be close to Matt Ryan’s 2016 MVP season since he’s in a similar offense.
Bank on Garoppolo to have a breakout season not just because of the talent around him but because he has to. There will be no excuses, no pity as to why he can’t perform at a high level. These standards need to be held on Jimmy Garoppolo as well as Kyle Shanahan.
If not, then there will definitely be talks of replacing him after the season or at the very least a fear that he isn’t the guy.
