Oakland Raiders: One EDGE target in every round of the 2019 NFL Draft
By Justin Fried
The sixth round is a perfect place to draft and stash developmental talents who have the potential to grow into effective NFL players but have glaring weaknesses they will have to overcome.
Eastern Michigan’s Maxx Crosby perfectly fits that bill.
Crosby has an appealing athletic profile and offers upside as an athletic speed rusher in the NFL, but doesn’t have the frame or standout abilities to be counted as a contributor just yet.
His pass rush moves are nothing special as, despite his athleticism, he doesn’t have the bend to make moves around the edge consistently. On top of that, his frame is still quite thin and he could use a few extra pounds to grow into his body which could help him with his leverage and run defense.
As it stands, Crosby just isn’t ready to be a Week 1 contributor, but the upside is most certainly there. The First-Team All-MAC selection has an explosive first step and combines that with some solid hand usage. This means that the potential is there for him to be a very productive pass rusher in the NFL, he just needs to put it all together.
If the Raiders could re-acquire a sixth-round pick, they might just be best served to take a chance on the potential upside of Crosby.
