The 49ers finally address the offensive line with their final selection of this 2019 NFL mock draft simulator. While the offensive line isn’t necessarily the most pressing need, they certainly could use some help in the interior.

Free agent acquisition Weston Richburg struggled in his first season in San Francisco scoring a very poor 51.9 Pro Football Focus grade which ranked him as the No. 33 center in the NFL. Now, the former New York Giant was dealing with a season-long knee injury and should remain the team’s starting center going forward, but his play was concerning nonetheless.

While Mike Person did a solid job of holding down the right guard spot in 2018, Laken Tomlinson is far from an elite option at the left guard position. Regardless, the team could certainly use some depth as the oft-injured Joshua Garnett is the only feasible depth option currently on the team.

That’s why they decide to select Notre Dame’s Alex Bars in the sixth-round of this mock draft. Bars is a versatile three-year starter who played on one of college football’s top offensive lines over the past few seasons.

A season-ending knee injury forced him to miss most of his senior season but the Notre Dame product started the previous two seasons split between right guard and right tackle. His versatility should serve him well and allow him to compete for a depth roster spot to begin the season.

Bars doesn’t have the athleticism and bend to reliably block speed rushers at the next level making a full-time move inside likely in the NFL. Still, Bars possesses enough power and a strong enough anchor to form a reliable skill set that could see him develop into a mid-tier starter at some point down the line.

For a sixth-round pick, Bars has enough potential and versatility to at least stick around on the team as a backup lineman.
