Upgrade at the forward position

Do not expect the Sharks to make a big splash before the 2019 NHL trade deadline. The trade for Kane came as a surprise last season, and the move paid off with the forward signing a seven-year extension.

Top to bottom, the Sharks finally have significant depth on the roster which was much lacking in the past. If a move gets made, adding a forward to the bottom lines will help provide stability for the stretch run.

After one game at home against the Coyotes, the Shark hit the road for Western Canada with games against two possible playoff opponents. The Winnipeg Jets look for a return trip to the Conference Finals from last season. Calgary will come next as San Jose hopes for better luck after an embarrassing defeat in their previous meeting.

Next. Who is the Sharks' midseason MVP?. dark

Plenty of hockey is left for the Sharks to make a run at the division. And yet, they are more likely to lock down the second spot to at least open at home in the first round. The Sharks must focus on playing to their strengths to finally secure the top spot.
