The drama and strife surrounding Eli Manning has been raging for a couple of seasons now. He’s lost it, some say. He’s done. Finished. Washed up. Every once in a while though, he’s been able to rise up and lead the Giants to some gutty, gritty wins – or close losses, anyway.

The writing is on the wall though. Manning is in the twilight of his career and the Giants have no plan for succession at this point. Having drafted running back Saquon Barkley last year and having a playmaking talent like Odell Beckham Jr. on the roster, the Giants need a young quarterback who can form a potent offensive nucleus.

Enter Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins.

Though this year’s crop of rookie quarterbacks is thin and there are no guaranteed hits or sure things, Haskins is the best of the lot and the most coveted quarterback in this year’s draft class. And he is very possibly on New York’s radar as the heir apparent to Manning.

There is one big wild card in play here though – Kyler Murray. It remains to be seen yet, whether or not Murray is going to play in the NFL. He signed a deal with the Oakland A’s after being drafted and received a substantial signing bonus to do so. Yet, he’s been openly flirting with the idea of going pro in the NFL. Oh, it must be nice to have multi-million dollar options.

Anyway, if Murray decides to play football, look for the Giants to pounce. Make no mistake, Murray will be at the top of their draft board – like some other teams – but they’ll take Haskins if Murray decides to stick with baseball.
