Oakland Raiders: Reasons team should draft Heisman winner Kyler Murray
With a Heisman Trophy under his belt and questions about his future in sports looming, Kyler Murray could be an ideal draft target for the Oakland Raiders.
On Saturday night, Kyler Murray became the 81st winner of the Heisman Trophy after a sensational season as quarterback of the Oklahoma Sooners. Now, the young gunslinger is faced with a decision every athlete would love to have — the NFL or MLB?
Currently under contract with the Oakland Athletics, Murray was drafted into professional baseball this past year. However, after a monstrous season with the Sooners, it’s looking like there will be plenty of NFL teams trying to convince him to continue his football career. No decision has been made yet, although he’s shown an interest in taking the two-sport route.
If that’s where his mind eventually lands, the Oakland Raiders would be wise to toss around the idea of drafting Murray during the 2019 NFL Draft. That is, if he enters the draft.
On the surface, it seems obvious, right? Why wouldn’t a terrible team like the Raiders be interested in a Heisman-caliber talent like Murray? Even with Derek Carr already in the mix, it would just make sense for Oakland to at least do their due diligence of the dynamic signal caller.
There’s more to it than that, though. That’s why I’ve put together this list of reasons as to why the Raiders should draft Murray if he opts to enter the 2019 NFL Draft. And yet, keep in mind that that’s not a foregone conclusion at this point.
