Golden State Warriors: Steph Curry provides perfect response to fan’s letter
A nine-year old girl drafted a letter to Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry concerning the fact that his new Under Armour shoes didn’t come in a Girls option. Who would have guessed it would make such a difference?
Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has been known to stand up for what is right. This is especially clear when it comes to women’s rights and the future of his two daughters.
This August, Curry wrote a piece on the Players’ Tribune talking about women’s rights and his desire for all women to be treated equally. He also touched on his feelings about daughters Riley and Ryan, and their futures as women.

On top of that, Steph hosted a free all-girls basketball camp this past summer in Walnut Creek, Calif. He understands the importance of recognizing talent in the sport, both in men and women.
On Monday, a nine-year old girl from Napa, Calif. wrote a letter to Curry when she realized that there were no Curry basketball shoes for sale in the Girls section on Under Armour’s website.
Her name is Riley-just like Steph’s first-born. She and her father went on Under Armour’s website to order her new shoes for her upcoming basketball season.
To their surprise, the Girls section was barren. So, Riley did something about it:
"Dear Mr. Stephen Curry,My name is Riley (just like your daughter), I’m 9 years old from Napa, California. I am a big fan of yours. I enjoy going to Warriors games with my dad. I asked my dad to buy me the new Curry 5s, because I’m starting a new basketball season. My dad and I visited the Under Armour website and were disappointed to see that there were no Curry 5s for sale under the girls section. However, they did have them for sale under the boys section, even to customize. I know you support girl athletes because you have two daughters and you host an all-girls basketball camp. I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock the Curry 5s, too.Sincerely,Riley Morrison"
On Thursday, just three days later, Curry got back to Riley with some great news. On Twitter, Curry posted a handwritten letter in response:
"Hey Riley,I appreciate your concern and have spent the last two days talking to Under Armour about how we can fix the issue. Unfortunately, we have labeled smaller sizes as “Boys” on the website. We are correcting this now! I want to make sure you can wear my kicks proudly — so I am going to send you a pair of Curry 5s now and you’ll be one of the first kids to get the Curry 6. Lastly, we have something special in the works for International Women’s Day on March 8, and I want you to celebrate with me! More to come on that, but plan to be in Oakland that night! All the best! #RuinTheGameStephen"
If you look under the Girls section on Under Armour’s website now, you will see that it has already been updated.
Riley has not only changed the way Under Armour and Steph think about their products, but she has also been rewarded for her honesty with new shoes and an invite to celebrate women with Steph.
As someone who was born and raised in Napa, it is amazing to see a nine-year-old from a small community making such a huge impact for girls all around the world. A simple letter to one of the greatest players in the NBA right now made such a big difference. As an owner of men’s Curry 3’s, it is nice to imagine the possibility of being able to purchase women’s Curry’s in the near future.
Hopefully this letter will resonate with other players and companies so that they think twice before not including a Girls section when it comes to their sporting goods.
Girls play sports too. Girls love sports too. Girls want to wear basketball shoes too. Now they can, thanks to Steph and Riley.
