San Francisco 49ers: And with the first pick in the 2019 Draft, they select…

Wide Receiver
It’s not the most pressing area of need, but it’s definitely an area that’s going to need to be addressed. Right now, the 49ers have Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis as their top two wideouts, and while they’re both good, San Francisco can use a true number one type receiver.

So far, Pierre Garcon hasn’t panned out to be that, despite signing a five-year, $47.5 million dollar deal with the team prior to the 2017 season. Injuries limited Garcon to just eight games that year, and now in 2018, he’s missed the last two games and is questionable for their week 12 matchup with Seattle.
There is an out for San Francisco following the season. They can part ways with the soon-to-be 33-year old Garcon, though it would cost them a little more than $7 million in dead cap money. At least they’d be off the hook for the rest of his deal though, and they currently do have the cap space to absorb it.
But that would leave them in need of adding to the wide receiving group as neither Richie James, nor Trent Taylor – although both have flashed from time to time – have displayed the consistency the passing game needs to really flourish.
Gien their plethora of other needs, it’s doubtful the 49ers would expend a first round pick on a receiver though, but there is still some talent that can be had in later rounds who would help bolster the passing game.
Some names worth watching for on day two might be Deebo Samuel out of South Carolina, N’Keal Harry out of Arizona State, and Kelvin Harmon out of NC State. All three have good attributes that Garoppolo can use to really sharpen San Francisco’s passing attack.
