With Saturday’s Big Game being postponed because of poor air quality caused by the fires that have ravaged the state of California, the Stanford and Cal football teams will have extra time to prepare. And for us, it allows more time to look back at Cal’s win last week against the USC Trojans.

It was a big win for Cal, for many reasons. They won their sixth game, setting a best for the Justin Wilcox era and earning them bowl eligibility for the first time since 2015. They also snapped a 14-game losing streak against USC, dating back to 2003, and snapped an eight-game losing streak as the away team against USC, dating back to 2000.

The last time Cal beat USC, Aaron Rodgers was the Golden Bears’ starting quarterback. Rodgers is currently in his 14th season in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers.

It was not an easy win for Cal, though. They trailed 14-0 at the half, and after scoring 15 straight points in the first seven minutes of the third quarter, needed to play just about perfect defense the rest of the way. They basically did. Cal’s defense pitched a shutout in the second half, and they held the Trojans’ offense to just 45 yards in the final 30 minutes.

Here are some of the biggest game-changers from last Saturday.
