Golden State Warriors: A few observations from season opening win over OKC
By Kevin Saito
Curry Is Good – Really Good
It was a night where things were going wrong for the Warriors. Like everything. Call it a championship hangover, call it early season rust, call it whatever you will, but the Warriors struggled against a Westbrook-less team that you would have thought they could have handled a little easier.

That wasn’t the case though. Obviously.
Golden State shot just 27 percent from three-point range – their bread and butter – and 44 percent overall. They committed 20 turnovers (to OKC’s 15), and committed 29 personal fouls.
It was a night when Klay Thompson it on just one of his eight three-point attempts, and was five-of-20 overall. Kevin Durant hit on just nine-of-his 21 total shots – and missed on all five of his three-point attempts. Even Draymond Green struggled, scoring just two points on one-of-six shooting – though, he balanced that out a bit with five assists, and 13 rebounds.
Despite everything going wrong around him, Curry put the team on his back, and helped will them to a win in the season opener.
For the night, Curry dropped in 32 points, on 11-for-20 shooting overall (55 percent), and connected on five-of-nine three-point attempts (56 percent). He also came very close to going Russell Westbrook and racking up a triple double, chipping in with nine assists, and eight rebounds.
Curry was all over the place, creating opportunities for his teammates, knocking down big buckets, and keeping his team in the game.
If Curry keeps up that kind of effort, gives those kinds of performances, and helps will Golden State to victories like he did on opening night, you’d have to consider him a front-runner for the league’s MVP award. Right?
It was a night when everything else was going wrong – and could have gotten even worse – Curry was absolutely right for this team.
