The Bench Could Be A Problem

Last year’s slogan, “Strength in Numbers,” was accurate – so accurate, it’s engraved into those nifty new reversible championship rings they just got.

Well, this year, they have the numbers – we’ll have to see whether it can become a strength or not. If we’re basing it on just one game – the opening game of the season no less – the bench, and the strength of their numbers might actually be something to be a little bit concerned with.

Although we know what we’re going to get out of Andre Iguodala, his leg injury gave us a glimpses of what we might not have without him. Kevon Looney and Shaun Livingston were steady, if not spectacular, but beyond them, it gets a little concerning.

Quinn Cook didn’t look particularly good against Oklahoma City, scoring just three points in his 13 minutes on the floor. And given that he can be a bit of a liability on defense, he’s going to need to earn his keep by putting the ball in the basket.

Then comes Jordan Bell, Jonas Jerebko, and Alfonzo McKinnie, who had a combined zero points, zero assists, and five rebounds in their 15 total minutes on the floor.

Yeah, they’ve got a boatload of All-Star talenet, blah, blah, blah – bit, to make a legit run at a three-peat, the Warriors will need better, and more significant contributions from their bench. And they didn’t exactly provide that in the season opener.
