Golden State Warriors: A few observations from season opening win over OKC

They’ve Got Some Issues To Deal With
The Oklahoma City, minus Russell Westbrook, should have been a much easier out for this Warriors squad, who is brimming with talent. And yet, they had to fight, claw, and scratch out a tough win.
Part of it is that the team looks a little out of shape. A little slow and sluggish. They went through lulls after building up a lead, only to see the Thunder scrape their way back into the game.
A few of the team’s beat writers have noted that it appeared that the Warriors just aren’t quite in game shape yet. They blame the lack of conditioning on the 29 fouls Golden State committed, as well as the fact that as a team, Golden State missed on 19 of their 26 three-point attempts – a success rate that was positively Rockets-esque.
The drop to just under 27 percent made three-pointers is in stark contrast to a team who hit almost 40 percent of them last season.
If conditioning is the problem – and it very likely is – that’s something that will come back in time, as they team gets used to playing in live game action, rather than in a controlled practice court. And it’s only going to get a little bit more rough the next couple of games when they play in the high altitude in Utah, and then Denver.
The equipment staff may want to make sure they have plenty of oxygen tanks handy.
Still, a win, is a win, is a win. The W’s are the only thing that matter. And on a night where the team was off, disjointed, and perhaps, not in the best physical shape, they found the mental fortitude to gut and grind out a win.
