Oakland Raiders: Six things we’ve learned through six weeks of play

Reggie McKenzie Is On His Way Out
The only thing more clear than Cooper and Karl Joseph being on their way out of town, is that GM Reggie McKenzie won’t be too far behind them.
It seemed a certainty when Gruden was given the job, and carte blanche along with it. Oh, Gruden and McKenzie have talked a good game about working together, about being part of a team, and having a great working relationship, and sharing a vision for the team.

But then, what else are they going to say really?
With each body – in the form of a draft pick of 2013 vintage or newer – he ships out, it becomes more and more clear that Gruden is attempting to rid the franchise of McKenzie’s influence, taint, fingerprints, or whatever you want to call it – and replace it with his own.
After all, you can’t have to alpha dogs in the same kennel, right?
McKenzie did a great job of getting the Raiders through the salary cap hell that Al Davis left the franchise in. McKenzie shed bloated contracts for underperforming players, and got the franchise back on the right track.
His draft picks though, by and large, have turned to be bust, more than boom, over his tenure.
2014 was McKenzie’s high point, in which he nabbed Carr, Khalil Mack, and Gabe Jackson all in the same class. Other than that though, he’s not really drafted many impact guys. And it seems that Gruden is intent on running them all out of town so he can stock the roster with his own picks.
Which can only mean that McKenzie may as well go ahead and start packing up his office now, and beat the rush.
