This Is A Bad Football Team

There is just no sugar coating it anymore – the Oakland Raiders are a bad, bad football team.

Things didn’t start off that way, mind you. Through the first four games of the year, the Raiders nabbed one win, and at least looked very competitive in the other three games, carrying fourth quarter leads in two of them.

These last two games though – a 26-10 beatdown at the hands of the Chargers, and this week’s 27-3 thrashing by the Seahawks – show that this is just a bad, bad team, and all of the hope of a corner being turned after those first four games was nothing more than fool’s gold.

Good teams find ways to win. Oakland dug deep and found a way to win against a Cleveland team that’s scrappy, feisty, and isn’t as bad as they’ve been in past seasons. Against the Rams, Broncos, and Dolphins though, the Raiders actually found ways to lose, with bad penalties, and even worse turnovers dooming them to an L.

Against the Chargers and Seahawks, the team just didn’t even bother to show up.

The ineptitude shown by this Raiders team is as surprising, as it is maddening. Despite being stripped down, this team still has a lot of talent on the roster. This is a team that seems like it could be more competitive than it has been.

Whether it’s bad schemes, players who don’t fit those schemes, poor execution, poor effort, bad coaching, or some combination of all of the above, the Raiders just aren’t getting it done. And what’s worse, is that rather than showing signs that they’re figuring it out and are making progress, these last two games have shown is that they’re actually headed in the opposite direction.

This is a very bad football team, who very well may make last season’s meager total of six wins seem like halcyon days indeed.
