Ugly: Explosive Plays

One of the biggest problems the Raiders had last season, was giving up big, explosive plays, while not making enough of their own. That bad combination doomed them plenty of times en route to their well-deserved 6-10 record.

Clearly though, that hasn’t changed all that much. Although, they are making a few more explosive plays this season, than we saw last year, they’re still giving up more than a few of them on the defensive side of the ball.

Consider the fact that three of Miami’s four touchdowns on the day when for 30-yards plus. The first was the 34-yard pass from Tannehill to Stills. The second was a 52-yard pass from Albert Wilson to Jakeem Grant, and the third was the 74-yard “pass” from Tannehill to Wilson.

Consider also that the fourth of Miami’s touchdowns on the day, was an 18-yard pass from Tannehill to Grant that could have gone for more.

The Raiders have made a few of their own – but, they’ve also had a few nullified by stupid penalties.

The imbalance between explosive plays made and explosive plays given up, needs to be addressed and corrected immediately. Nothing will doom this team faster (other than poor decision making by Carr), than giving up explosive plays – especially when they result in a score.
