San Francisco 49ers: The good, bad, and ugly in week two win over Lions
By Kevin Saito
Good: Garoppolo Returns To Form
After a rough opening week saw him throw for less than a 50 percent completion rate, three interceptions – and lose his first game as a starting quarterback, people were starting to openly wonder about whether or not Garoppolo was turnover prone, and the franchise quarterback they expected to see.

Such is the nature of our overreactive culture.
Garoppolo was going to lose games. There’s no getting around it. And there were games in which he was going to look absolutely terrible. It happens to every quarterback. Even Joe Montana had some bad games throughout his remarkable career. It’s just the nature of the beast.
Garoppolo should have put a lot of minds at ease with his performance against Detroit though. The San Francisco signal caller went 18/26 (69 percent completion rate), for 206 yards, and a pair of scores. More importantly, he did not throw an interception – though, he did dodge a bullet on that one, after a penalty wiped out a Lions pick.
But Garoppolo looked much more settled and in command of the offense against Detroit, than he did against Minnesota. He led the 49ers offense to 30 points, which is tremendous, and makes a team hard to beat.
Or, at least, it makes it easier to withstand a withering late game rally – as was the case here.
While it’s only one game, it’s hopefully a sign that Garoppolo is trending in the right direction, which can only portend great things for this explosive 49ers offense.
