San Francisco 49ers: The good, bad, and ugly in week one loss to the Vikings
By Kevin Saito
Bad: Injuries
As if the 49ers didn’t have enough on the injury front to deal with, having lost the key piece of Shanahan’s running attack he’d imported from Minnesota this offseason in Jerick McKinnon, who’s already lost for the year after tearing an ACL in practice.

During the game with Minnesota, they then lost a couple of linemen in Mike Person – and his replacement Joshua Garnett with foot injuries – which necessitated a shuffle along the offensive line. Rookie first round pick Mike McGlinchey slid inside to guard, leaving the only other available lineman, Garry Gilliam, to cover the right tackle spot.
The results weren’t great.
On the day, Garaoppolo took three sacks, was pressured, and was hit numerous times. Garoppolo was taking so much heat, it led Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter to say they needed to keep the pressure on him, because they could see “he was scared.”
San Francisco also lost their top receiver, Marquise Goodwin, to a quad injury early in the second quarter. Linebacker Brock Coyle also left the field after sustaining a concussion.
As of now, there’s no word on the extent of the injuries, or any real update, other than everybody is having their wounds looked at. HC Kyle Shanahan is expected to update us all on the severity of the injuries at a press conference Monday afternoon.
