Week 3 of the preseason is typically the final game where key players see in-game action before getting ready for the regular season and that is exactly how Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers are approaching their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts.

In his press conference on Wednesday, Kyle Shanahan indicated that most of the San Francisco 49ers‘ starters should play up until halftime and potentially into the third quarter.

In all likely hood, this Saturday’s game will be the last we see of Jimmy Garoppolo and the first-team offense until the regular season opener against the Vikings.

Shanahan also made some encouraging announcements about players returning from injury, specifically on the defensive side of the ball. Richard Sherman, Malcolm Smith, Arik Armstead, Solomon Thomas, and K’Waun Williams are all expected to play in Saturday’s game.

Sherman and Armstead will be making their preseason debut, while Thomas and Smith will return after missing the past two weeks of practice with concussion and hamstring injuries, respectively.

This is shaping up to be a complete dress rehearsal for both the defensive and offensive (for the exception of the running backs), so it should be a fun weekend.

Fans are finally going to get their first glimpse of what the first team defense looks like with their full unit upfront and in the secondary. Let’s take a look at a few players to keep an eye out during the dress rehearsal for the 49ers.
