Golden State Warriors announce preseason schedule
The Golden State Warriors announced their five-game preseason schedule, and it’s headlined by the team’s first appearance in Seattle since 2007 and their third preseason game in San Jose in the past four years.
The quest for a three-peat and officially kicks off for the Golden State Warriors on September twenty-ninth as they host the Minnesota Timberwolves in their first of two preseason games at the Oracle Arena.
Kevin Durant and the team have a week off before their second preseason game where they will bring the NBA back to Seattle for the first time in ten years, as the Warriors take on their Bay Area counterparts, Sacramento Kings on October fifth.
This will be Durant’s first return to Seattle since playing his rookie season with the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007 before their relocation to Oklahoma City.
Seattle has been rumored to be among the list of cities in consideration if a team relocates or if the NBA plans on expanding.
Ironically enough, another city on that list is Las Vegas, where the Warriors will play the first of two preseason games against the new-look Los Angeles Lakers at the T-Mobile Arena.
The Warriors conclude their five-game preseason schedule on October twelfth, and while the NBA regular season schedule has yet to be released, we can expect the season opener to fairly close to that date.
The full preseason schedule can be viewed below:
Saturday, Sept. 29th @5:30 pm, vs. Minnesota Timberwolves, Oracle Arena
Friday, Oct. 5th @7:30 pm, vs. Sacramento Kings, KeyArena, Seattle
Monday, Oct. 8th @7:30 pm, vs. Phoenix Suns, Oracle Arena, Oakland
Wednesday, Oct. 10th @7:00 pm, vs. Los Angeles Lakers, T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
Friday, Oct. 12th @7:30 pm, vs. Los Angeles Lakers, SAP Center, San Jose
Not many of the Warriors’ superstars figure to play significant minutes during the preseason, but it’s a great way for the NBA to test the Seattle and Las Vegas market interest by bringing the defending champs to play at their towns.
The fact that the Warriors are facing the Lakers twice should remove them as potential opponents to open the regular season, so the NBA might have to wait to see LeBron James face off against the Durant and Stephen Curry until later in the season.
Let us know what you think. How do you think this preseason schedule effects the Warriors’ regular-season opener? Should the NBA look to expand and return to Seattle or possibly Las Vegas?
