3 DOWN

1 – The Road Woes

After such a promising start to the road trip, the Giants fell right back into their losing ways on the road. They dropped three of four to the last-place Marlins, then dropped two of three to the Dodgers. They finished the trip 4-6, giving them their ninth straight losing multi-city roadtrip, dating back to July of last season.

On the year, the Giants are 10 games under .500 on the road, and own a -50 run differential. They are 3-9-1 in series on the road this year, and their series win in Washington is the only victory in their last eight attempts. The Giants get to enjoy some home-cooking for now, but they need to figure something out on the road if they want to have a real shot at getting to October.

2 – Crawford Gone Cold

After an absurd month of May and an incredible start to June, Brandon Crawford’s bat went cold after his massive game against Max Scherzer in Washington. He entered Los Angeles with a .328 average, but went hitless in 10 at-bats against Dodgers’ hurlers. That performance follows a series in Miami where Crawford’s bat didn’t really show up either. In the final seven games of the roadtrip, Crawford went 3-26, dropping his average from .338 on Monday morning in Miami to .315 as the board the plane on Sunday.

Pitchers still recognize Crawford as a threat, as he’s been intentionally walked three times in the past seven games. Now, he gets three days off as he heads to the paternity list for the birth of his fourth child. Hopefully, he can still be a threat in the lineup upon his return

3 – Too Quiet

The Giants’ bat have had a tendency to go very quiet for periods of time for a while now, and this was one of those series where it seems they couldn’t hit if the ball was placed on a tee. On Friday, they totaled four hits and were hitless in three at-bat with runners in scoring position. They again had four hits on Saturday, and were 0-5 with RISP. On Sunday, three hits were all they could muster (luckily enough for them, two left the yard), and they went 0-4 with RISP.

Next: 3 Up, 3 Down: Miami Heat

Going hitless in 12 at-bats with runners in scoring position is usually a bad way to go about things. It’s become a common theme for the Giants on the road, and especially at Dodger Stadium, and it’s got to change.
