The San Francisco 49ers’ linebacker Reuben Foster had recently been accused of domestic violence, making his future with the team uncertain. Today, his accuser admits to lying about the incident. How does this effect the team going forward, especially in tomorrow’s NFL Draft?

The San Francisco 49ers can let out a sigh of relief today. The woman who accused 49ers linebacker, Reuben Foster, of domestic violence has admitted to have lied about the allegations.

Apparently the injuries the woman suffered were in fact caused by an altercation she had with a different woman, and not at all to due with Foster.

The woman who accused Foster’s lawyer told the Sacramento Bee, “(Foster) did not strike her, injure her or threaten her.” Apparently Foster threatened to end his relationship with the woman after finding out about the altercation with the other individual.

The allegations against Foster were done as a direct retaliation for this.

“She was extremely upset and told him if he broke up with her she would ‘trash his career,’” said the woman’s lawyer.

This information came soon after the San Francisco 49ers General Manager, John Lynch, made it clear that if the allegations being levied against Foster were indeed true, then Foster would no longer be with the team.

Thankfully the team did not act rashly and cut Foster as soon as the allegations surfaced, as they appear to be proven false. Nothing is official yet, but all signs point to the chargers likely being dropped after the accuser’s confession.

Foster is not yet fully in the clear, as he still has a possession of a deadly weapon charge looming. Regardless, this news is a great sign for the team, as he will likely not end up being cut from the team any longer.

This news comes at an opportune time as tomorrow the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft will be taking place. As a result of the chargers that were filed against him, the idea of the San Francisco 49ers drafting his replacement in the first round has been a hot topic of discussion.

The team already had a need at linebacker, this news made many all but certain the team would address that need with the ninth overall pick in the draft, likely selecting either Tremaine Edmunds or Roquan Smith.

With this recent revelation in the case, that becomes less of a certainty, but not out of the realm of possibility. As previously stated, the team has a need at linebacker, with or without the presence of Reuben Foster.

If the team is in love with either linebacker, they could still very realistically take one, since both are better fits at weakside linebacker than middle. It will likely come down to which player the team likes more out of Roquan Smith, Harold Landry or Minkah Fitzpatrick. All three are positions of need and great players.

Not to say they necessarily had to go with a linebacker before this news came out, but it seemed very likely. Now the team has no obligation to do so, but it is still as likely an option as any. We will soon find out which route the team elects to embark upon.
