Isaac’s Projection: Round Six (pick 184): Tre Flowers (S – Oklahoma State)

When it comes to the sixth and seventh rounds you are really throwing a shot in the dark with the remaining players. Perhaps the shot with the best chance of landing at this stage of the draft is safety Tre Flowers.

Flowers is a top tier athlete coming out of Oklahoma State University. He is a safety who stands 6’3” and runs a 4.45 40-yard dash time. He will take a lot of time to groom if he ever becomes an effective NFL player, but potential is there based purely on his athleticism. He is a risk worth taking at this point of the draft.

Kevin’s Projection: Round Six (pick 184): Durham Smythe (TE – Notre Dame)

While not a glaring area of need, given the presence of George Kittle and Garrett Celek, the 49ers may still want to add some depth to the position – and possibly find an upgrade.

Due to Notre Dame’s struggles and limitations throwing the football, Smythe’s skills were largely unseen. All of the Irish’s pass catchers suffered from down production due to an inability to establish a halfway decent passing game.

In Smythe though, the 49ers would be getting a big target (six-foot-five, 253 pounds), with decent speed (4.8), and good hands. Smythe is solid as both a receiver and as a blocker. He could be the upgrade they’re looking for and a very good value pick here.
