Oakland Raiders: Six most logical targets with the tenth-overall pick
By Kevin Saito

The Raiders have a very glaring need at defensive tackle. Yes, they re-signed Justin Ellis, but beyond him, they have – what exactly? Eddie Vanderdoes, who flashed momentarily last season, before disappearing – and then blowing out his ACL. Treyvon Hester, who actually looks fairly solid and should be a strong part of the rotation. And Darius Latham who – who was that again?

With Irvin sliding to the edge, we could see Mario Edwards Jr., and possible even the recently acquired Tank Carradine rotating along the interior, possibly.
But, there is no question that this Raiders team desperately needs a playmaker on the interior of their defensive line. Ellis is solid and incredibly stout against the run. There’s no question about that. But, when it comes to pushing the pocket and getting after the quarterback, you’re going to need to look elsewhere.
A dynamic defensive tackle – one that’s solid against the run and can provide a solid pass rush – can complicate things for the offensive line and command the attention of multiple blockers. Which is something that can really help the team’s edge rushers.
You’re not going to get that from Ellis.
But, a tackle like Da’Ron Payne could really provide that dynamic element the Raiders need on their defensive line. At six-foot-two, 310 pounds, he not only occupies a lot of space, but for his size, he’s got blazing speed – he posted a 4.9 in the 40.
Payne has size, speed, and strength. He’s an elite run stuffer and can provide an excellent pass rush – as his 27 quarterback pressures prove.
Needing a dynamic interior lineman, Payne is one of two they should give serious consideration to.
Likelihood: 9/10
