There were plenty of positives to take away as the San Francisco Giants beat the Seattle Mariners 10-7 on Friday afternoon.

The San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners met for the second straight day on Friday, and it was a completely different ballgame than the one they played Thursday. After the two teams combined for four runs on Thursday, they hit a combined eight home runs as the Giants won an offensive shootout, 10-7.

Here are three players who stood out from Friday’s win:

1 – Pierce Johnson

Johnson was back at it on Friday, throwing the sixth inning against the Mariners. He worked around a two-out walk, getting a pair of groundballs to start the frame before ending it with a strikeout on a slider down and away.

Quietly, Johnson has put together a solid spring through five appearances. He’s allowed just one hit in four innings, and hasn’t given up a run. Three walks are a bit concerning, but it’s been an overall promising debut spring for the organization.

With him already being on the 40-man roster, he should see some time in the big leagues this season, and he has the repertoire to become a weapon out of the bullpen. Johnson needs to refine his command, but his slider and fastball combination could certainly help the big league team.

2 – Chris Shaw

The yard was live on Friday, with balls flying out of the park fast and furious. It was a good day to be a hitter, but when two teams combine for eight home runs, a lot of which are wall-scrapers, it can take away some of the luster of the longball. Not for Chris Shaw, however.

Shaw’s blast in the eighth inning Friday was a moonshot, flying well beyond the fence in right-center field and landing more than halfway up the grassy hill out there. It was in no way a Cactus League special. It was one of those blasts that would have been out at just about any park around baseball, even the spacious right field of AT&T Park.

It was Shaw’s first home run this spring, and a beautiful display of raw power that has made him one of the most interesting players in the organization. He has the pop to hit home runs anywhere, and they look anything like it did on Friday, it will be a sight to see.

3 – Buster Posey

The Giants’ catcher was back in the lineup against Seattle, only his second game of the spring and the first since February 25th. He didn’t seem to have any trouble with his bat. He picked up three hits in three at-bats, including a pair of doubles and a pair of runs scored.

In his first at-bat, he laced the first pitch deep into right field. Mariners’ outfielder Junior Lake gave it a good effort and nearly tracked the ball down close to the corner, but couldn’t make the catch which allowed Posey to ease into second. Posey’s second hit was a well-struck single into center field in the fourth inning. He came around to score both times.

His day ended similar to the way it started. He smoked another ball to right field, this one closer to the gap than the last, and it clanked off the wall for his second double of the day. Posey was replaced by a pinch-runner, but this was a quite promising day for a player that had missed a significant portion of the early part of Spring Training.
