San Francisco Giants New Top-30 Prospect List Revealed on MLB.com
MLB.com has released their list of the San Francisco Giants’ top 30 prospects, featuring a new face at the top of the leaderboard.
Unsurprisingly, there’s a new ballplayer atop the San Francisco Giants’ list of top-30 prospects on MLB.com. 18-year-old phenom Heliot Ramos, the team’s first-round draft pick (19th overall) from 2017, has risen through the ranks and is now, officially, the team’s number-one prospect.
Ramos has captured the imaginations of Giants’ fans with his incredible skill-set, his age, and his professional debut in 2017. In Arizona Rookie League last season, Ramos hit .348/.404/.645 with 11 doubles, six triples, six home runs, and 10 stolen bases in 35 games.
MLB.com prospect expert Jim Callis says that Ramos has “probably got the highest upside of any prospect they’ve had since Buster Posey”. Ramos is also featured in the three major top-100 prospects publications, as well. He’s ranked 61st on Baseball Prospectus’ list, 63rd on MLB Pipeline, and 79th on Baseball America.
Ramos supplants Tyler Beede from the top spot. Beede was ranked at the top of the list in 2017’s preseason rankings, but took a tumble down to fourth place in this year’s list. Beede struggled in Triple-A last season before a groin injury cut his season short in July, and didn’t return to the mound until October in the Arizona Fall League. He’s currently in big league camp, competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster.

Chris Shaw jumps from fifth on last year’s list to second on this year’s, taking the spot vacated by Christian Arroyo after he was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays. Shaw had a big year in 2017, leading the organization with 24 home runs while splitting time between AA and AAA. Steven Duggar also moves up, going from fourth to third, despite missing a lot of time last year because of various injuries.
Austin Slater wasn’t featured on last year’s preseason top-10 list, but finds himself fifth on this year’s. He barely qualifies for the list, as he accumulated 117 at-bats last year. Had he surpassed 130, he would have lost his rookie status for this year. He was impressive in his short time in the major leagues, and is in camp trying to earn a spot on the big league bench.
19-year-old outfielder Sandro Fabian holds strong at sixth, exactly where he was listed last year. Fabian played stateside for the first time as a pro last year, hitting .277/.297/.408 with 30 doubles and 11 home runs for Single-A Augusta.
Aramis Garcia is in the top-10 after a bounceback season, sliding in at seventh. The catcher was limited to 47 games because of injuries in 2016, but came back strong by hitting .274/.323/.485 with 17 home runs and 32 doubles in 103 games between A+ San Jose and AA Richmond.
Shaun Anderson comes in right behind Garcia at number eight. Anderson came to the Giants in the Eduardo Nunez trade with the Red Sox, and impressed in his short time in the organization. He posted a 3.51 ERA and 0.896 WHIP in six games, with 22 strikeouts and four walks in 25.2 innings. Lefty Garrett Williams made a big jump, moving from 28th to ninth on this year’s list. He was impressive in his first call-up to San Jose, and struck out nearly a batter per inning over the course of the season.
Rounding out the top-10 is another player in camp battling for a rotation spot, Andrew Suarez. The southpaw remains steady at number 10 for the third straight season, and made his first jump to Triple-A last season. Suarez was the team’s second-round pick in 2015, and is on the cusp of making his big league debut.
