The San Francisco 49ers may have fallen to 1-10 with a loss to Seattle, but they may have picked up a major W for the long term.

The San Francisco 49ers have dropped to 1-10 on the year, but they may have gained a W after the game.

Jimmy Garoppolo, the potential quarterback of the future, came in late in the fourth quarter when quarterback C.J. Beathard went down with an apparent injury.

Garoppolo had a four-yard rush as well as he completed both passes he attempted for 19 yards, with the last pass being a touchdown to receiver Louis Murphy.

Is it time to get excited for the future?

Beathard and this offense were beyond dreadful today. Beathard finished 22/38 for 201 yards and threw one awkward interception (or fumble if you want to call it) that resulted in the first touchdown of the game for Seattle.

The offensive line did not provide any help either. Beathard was sacked three time while getting hit 13 times. THIRTEEN! Drops also hurt the momentum of the offense as well.

Overall, it was a very bad day for the offense excluding the time that Garoppolo was under center.

The running game was also non-existent. After Carlos Hyde ran all over Seattle in their Week Two matchup, he struggled to find consistency today as he ran for 47 yards on 16 carries (2.9 yards per carry) on the day. Beathard kept the ball six times and only found 21 yards, while rookie Matt Breida had 12 yards on one carry.

The lack of consistent threats on the receiving end also hindered the 49ers offense. Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin led the way in receiving, hauling in four catches for 78 yards. Receiver Louis Murphy had the only touchdown of the game.

On the other side of the ball, the 49ers defense continues to show signs of progress, even though they have been hit hard by injuries.

On the first play from scrimmage, Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson was trying to go down the field to tight end Jimmy Graham but instead, was picked off by veteran 49er safety Eric Reid. Cornerback Dontae Johnson also missed an interception that went right through his hands.

The defense had a strong first half, which saw Russell Wilson‘s throw for 80 yards on just  8/19 passing and that one interception, along with one rushing touchdown on a read-option run.

However, Wilson finished the game 20/34 for 228 yards and two touchdowns. He only had three incomplete passes in the 2nd half, while the 49ers struggled to bring the heat on him. But when they did manage to pressure him, they failed to bring Wilson down.

Eddie Lacy led Seattle in rushing, with 46 yards on 17 carries. Wilson kept the ball seven times for 25 yards and J.D. McKissic had 22 yards on five carries, as well as 24 receiving yards on four receptions.

Paul Richardson led Seattle in receptions, as he had 70 yards on four catches. Tight ends Jimmy Graham and Nick Vannett each had a touchdown reception in the second half to put this one out of reach.

The 49ers head to Chicago to take on rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky, a player the 49ers didn’t take in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Bears are 3-8 and struggling as well, so maybe the 49ers can pull off the upset.

At this point of the season, it would be really smart to start Garoppolo against his hometown team.
