The San Francisco 49ers have been hit hard by injuries along the defensive line. As players return, will Aaron Lynch be waived to make room?

The San Francisco 49ers depth along the defensive line has been pretty good thus far heading into the bye week. Although, performance-wise, they’ve been extremely inconsistent.

Lineman like Ronald Blair have returned from injury and rookie Solomon Thomas and 28-year-old Tank Carradine are expected to return from their injuries soon.

When these players make their return, some players will have to make their departure to accommodate them. One player that the 49ers should get rid of is DE/LB Aaron Lynch.

Yes, he has been a 49er since 2014, but he hasn’t done anything since the 2015 season. His combined sacks in 2014 and 2015 totaled 12.5. But, between 2016 and the present, he’s tallied just 2.5 sacks.

Another factor in favor of moving on from him, is that Lynch played in just seven games last season and. And thus far in 2017, he has only played in five games, due to injuries.

In the five games he has appeared in this season, he has only recorded five total tackles. Three of them have been solo while the other two have been assisted tackles. Not so smooth, right?

Yes, he is only 24-years-old but it would probably be best for both sides to part ways. It’s unclear whether Lynch will ever return to his 2014 and 2015 form — when many believed capable of developing into a star pass rusher.

Again, if there is a comparison between Lynch and other pass rushers, the other pass rushers would stand out over Lynch.

Players like Leger Douzable and Elvis Dumervil have been really good for the 49ers, even though there weren’t super high expectations put upon them.

Maybe, the 49ers can keep Lynch for the rest of the season to see if he shows any signs of being the player he was a few years ago.

But, but chances of that are not very likely, especially considering the way he has played the last few weeks.

Maybe all Lynch needs is a change of scenery. A team that is great at getting to the quarterback like the Jacksonville Jaguars could really give Lynch a boost of confidence.
