San Francisco Giants: Superlative Awards for the 2017 Season
Best Callback to 2014
There maybe hasn’t been a more popular single-season Giant than Big Mike Morse, but the Giants brought him back for one last go-around in 2017 Spring Training. He showed that he still had some pop left in his bat and looked like he would make the opening day roster before an injury cut his Cactus League season short.
Rather than hang it up, Morse stuck with it, rehabbed, and was eventually brought back to the big leagues. In his first at-bat back on April 26th, he showed that there was still just a little bit of magic left by bringing back memories of his biggest moment with the team.
In the eighth inning and the Giants down by a run, Morse was called upon as a pinch-hitter. Against a tough right-handed reliever, he had one job. Swing hard, and hope he hits it. Hit it, he did. Morse yanked a fastball to left field, tying the game as he raised his arms triumphantly heading down the first base line.

Sound familiar? A little bit of deja vu struck on April 26th, when Morse hit a home run off Pedro Baez that was close to a mirror image to his home run off Pat Neshek in game five of the 2014 NLCS. Of course, the stakes were much lower when Morse tied the game against the Dodgers, but you can’t take away those sweet, sweet memories.
