The Oakland Raiders got out to a 2-0 start after walloping the New York Jets on Sunday – let’s take a look at a few notable numbers through the first two weeks of play.

The Oakland Raiders put an emphatic exclamation mark on their first 2-0 start since 2002 with a 45-20 drubbing of the hapless New York Jets.

While any win is a good win in the NFL, it’s hard to get too excited over beating a team that has about as much talent and direction as the pre-Reggie McKenzie era Raiders. Offensively, the Raiders gave us a glimpse of just how explosive and dominant they can be in scoring six touchdowns – three through the air, three on the ground.

Defensively, Oakland did what they needed to do in thrashing a team that has Josh McCown starting under center. They dropped him four times, forced him into 17 for 25, 166 yard performance, limiting him to a 6.6 average yard per attempt and a 78.5 QB rating.

Oakland excelled in all three phases of the game on Sunday. And while the sample size is still very small, there are some trends that seem to be starting to emerge – some good, and some not so good. There are some areas where this team is exceeding last year’s unit. And some where it doesn’t seem to have made a lot of progress — if any at all.

It’s early still and there is a lot of football left to be played. And while there are some things that are definitely worth being excited about, there are others that could still use some tightening.

Though the sample size is still admittedly small, let’s take a look at a few notable numbers through the first two weeks of play…
