Keep Carr Clean

Although there is a dearth of talent on the offensive side of the ball in New York, the defense has some guys who can not just disrupt a play, but blow things up entirely.

It was largely on the back of that defense that the Jets managed to hang around against Buffalo as long as they did. They kept Buffalo’s offense in check, limiting them to just 14 points through three quarters and twenty-one for the game.

And they did it by harassing Bills quarterback Tyrod Taylor all game long. New York has a front seven with some genuine impact players who can make life a waking nightmare for opposing quarterbacks.

Muhammad Wilkerson, Leonard Williams, Demario Davis, and Darron Lee can all disrupt an offense and can punish an opposing quarterback.

Last week against Buffalo, the Jets defense sacked Taylor twice, hit him another five times, defensed five of his passes, had six tackles for a loss, and also forced an interception. On quite a few plays, the Jets’ defensive front made mincemeat of Buffalo’s offensive line.

Oakland’s offensive line – arguably, one of the best in all the league – needs to be on point. They are going to need to be as solid up front this week as they were last season. More to the point, they need to keep Wilkerson, Williams, Davis, Lee – and even recent acquisition Kony Ealy out of Carr’s face.

The line will definitely need to tighten up a bit, given that they surrendered a pair of sacks to the Titans. And with pass rushers as talented as the Jets have, Oakland’s offensive line will be tested.

New York’s defense held Taylor to 224 yards on 57 percent passing (16 of 28). And they did that largely because of the push up front and the constant pressure he faced.

The offensive line needs to neutralize the playmakers along New York’s defensive front, keeping Carr as clean as possible.
