1 – Scheduling

As if a 7:35 eastern starting time on getaway day wasn’t bad enough, a rain delay knocked the start back almost an hour and a half to 9 o’clock. A combined 23 runs later, the game finally saw its final out at half past midnight on Friday morning. After a night flight back to San Francisco, the Giants will be right back in action on Friday night and then again for an afternoon game on Saturday.

The Giants were already playing an ugly brand of baseball, but one can only imagine that they won’t be at their sharpest this weekend after this rough travel stretch.

2 – The Longballs

Just as the Giants were leaving the yard with unseen frequency in Atlanta, their pitchers had a big problem keeping the Braves in the yard. On Monday, both Johnny Cueto and Derek Law gave up one home run. Matt Moore and company kept the Braves in the yard on Tuesday, but Jeff Samardzija allowed two and Cory Gearrin allowed his first of the season, a walk-off shot, on Wednesday. On Thursday, Matt Cain was tagged for three gopher balls, and Bryan Morris added another.

3 – Another Series Loss

The Giants lost another series, their fourth straight series loss. It was also their sixth series loss in seven tries, with the lone exception being a four-game split with the Milwaukee Brewers. They haven’t won a series since they took two of three from these same Braves late in May.
