San Francisco Giants 3 Up, 3 Down: Back at Home
3 DOWN
1 – Gorkys Hernandez
Gorkys Hernandez wasn’t supposed to be much of an offensive threat, but even for him a .080/.148/.120 slash-line is abysmal. His defense should be able to make up for that, but through 10 games, Hernandez has looked just about awful out in the field as well.
On Tuesday, Hernandez misplayed a ball out in center field, and turned what should have a sacrifice fly into a three-run triple for Jake Lamb. It was a difficult play as it was, but a play that Hernandez should have made. It put the Giants in an early deficit that they just wouldn’t be able to overcome.
Hernandez isn’t as bad as he’s played so far this season, especially on the defensive side, but he needs to pick it up. If not, Melvin Upton, Jr. (whose deal became official on Wednesday morning) might have a roster spot fairly soon.
2 – Buster Posey
The Giants’ star catcher was off to a good start on the road, but his first at-bat at home brought the good feelings crashing down. Taijuan Walker‘s fastball plunked Posey on his helmet, and sent him to the seven-day disabled list.
It seems that Posey will be good to go when he’s ready to come off the disabled list on Tuesday, but he and the team are not in the clear yet. Concussions are notoriously tricky, and one foul tip or backswing could send him back to the shelf. Hopefully that won’t be the case.

3 – String Some Wins Together
This one is kind of nitpicky, mostly because this was a really good series for San Francisco, but the Giants haven’t been able to really string together some wins yet. They had a brief winning streak of two games, beating San Diego on Sunday and Arizona on Monday, but couldn’t keep it going on Tuesday. They got back on track on Wednesday with another win, and with the top of the rotation set to go against the Colorado Rockies, maybe they can put together three in a row.
