Raekwon McMillan (ILB)

Most anticipate McKenzie spending his early Draft picks on defense. And given the fact that they have huge needs and his entire crop of free agents to this point have been on the offensive side of the ball, he better.

McMillan is projected as a late first/early second round pick and may very well be on the board when the Raiders are on the clock.

Scouts have been impressed with his speed, agility, and intelligence in diagnosing plays. He’s also able to shed blockers and is a sure tackler. McMillan plays both the run and pass well – something Oakland has lacked and desperately needs in an inside backer.

If there is a weakness to his game, scouts believe it’s that he is more prone to “knock down” a ballcarrier using his brute strength rather than wrapping them up and taking them to the ground. Also, they believe that he is sometimes slow to change directions.

But his positives seem to outweigh his negatives and he has the size, speed, and intelligence to man the position well. At 6’2”, 240 lbs. , McMillan has shown that he’s very coachable and that he spends a lot of time and effort learning and perfecting his trade.

With Reuben Foster likely to be long gone by the time the Raiders are on the clock, should McMillan be there at 24 – and many think he will be – he very well may warrant a closer look by McKenzie as he could potentially fill a very glaring need in the middle of that Raiders defense.
