Oakland Raiders: Free Agents Still Up For Grabs Who Won’t Break The Bank
By Kevin Saito
The Oakland Raiders have been as quiet as the proverbial church mouse this free agency period as they look for value signings – but here are a few veteran options who could help, but may not necessarily break the bank.
Fans seem to have gotten used to Oakland Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie making a splash in free agency over the last couple of years. Kelechi Osemele. Sean Smith. Bruce Irvin. McKenzie has put his stamp on this team by attracting some top talent – once again, making the Raiders a destination for impact guys still in their prime.
This year though, McKenzie has gone low-key. And by low-key, we mean almost completely underground. After signing Marshall Newhouse – something that seems more like an addition for depth than anything – McKenzie managed to land wide receiver/kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson late Monday night.
By this point in the free agency derby though, it seems more than obvious that McKenzie isn’t going after the big fish on the market – or if he is, he’s doing an amazing job of not making the slightest rippled on the surface of the water.
It seems more likely though, that he’s looking for players who have solid value, rather than big names. And there’s nothing wrong with that. For the first time in a very long time, the Raiders have a really solid core and now, the team just needs some complementary pieces to help flesh out what is looking like a very strong roster.
So, knowing that McKenzie is looking for value over splash – and knowing the team has a few key areas they absolutely need to upgrade – here are a few veterans still on the free agent market who could be signed without breaking the bank.
