Taiwan Jones

Taiwan Jones is undoubtedly a favorite of many fans. But he’s also a man without a real position. He has never really factored into the running game and his brief stint as a corner ended pretty quickly. His main contribution to the team comes on special teams. And to be fair, he’s pretty hellacious on the special teams unit.

But he’s being paid a pretty penny to be nothing more than a special teamer. Some might think that the $1.15 million he’s being paid this season is chump change – and in NFL terms, yeah, maybe it is. But when you take that $1.15 million and throw it into the pot, it can add up – and could potentially be the difference between being able to sign an impact player or not.

Special teams jobs can be filled with young players. Guys who had to fight to make the roster and likely won’t see a lot of playing time otherwise. Guys who won’t make nearly as much as Jones.

Jones is a favorite among the Raider Nation. But it’s hard to justify keeping him on the roster at his current salary when the money he’s being paid can go to better other areas of the team that need help.
