The San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets is a game featuring two teams simply playing out the string. Come talk about the game and all things 49ers football here.

In a game featuring a couple of the league’s storied franchises, the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets are playing a game whose only meaning is for draft positioning. It’s certainly not the type of season the 49ers’ organization or their fanbase wanted. Nor is it the one they expected. With Chip Kelly running his signature up-tempo attack, most figured to see an offensive boom in San Francisco.

Some are still waiting to see that happen. Most have already given up and are looking forward to what will assuredly be a busy offseason.

Sitting with a record of 1-12, the 49ers have most definitely taken a huge step backward from even the boom year of Jim Tomsula and his five wins. Worse than that, Kelly’s 49ers squad is scoring just 19.5 points per game – twenty-fifth in the league. But hey, given that it’s almost five points per game more than the Tomsula year, maybe it should be seen as a silver lining.

There is currently a three-way battle for the first pick of next year’s NFL Draft. Cleveland has the inside track with their 0-12 record, then come the 49ers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are making a push with their 2-10 mark. The 49ers are still in the mix for the top pick, but their last two games against the Rams and the Seahawks, this might be the only game that trips them up!

And of course, the Jets aren’t making it any easier (more difficult?) on the 49ers. With Christian Hackenberg starting under center for the Jets, the 49ers will be facing an inexperienced and inconsistent quarterback who might be the face of the New York Jets someday? Or maybe not.

The 49ers though, have countered by shutting down all-world left tackle Joe Staley due to a hamstring injury. That very well could leave Colin Kaepernick – or whoever takes the snaps today – exposed and vulnerable. And against a Jets pass rush that can actually be pretty ferocious when it wants to be, it could be a long day for San Francisco’s quarterbacks.

42. 13. 30. Final. 17

These two teams haven’t met since 2012, and the 49ers romped, blanking the Jets 34-0. That likely won’t be the outcome today though. It might not be a very pretty football game to watch, in all honesty. But hey, at least it’s football, right?

How do you see this game playing out? Will you be watching? Who do you think comes out on top? What are the most intriguing storylines to you? Will the 49ers be able to overtake Cleveland for the top spot in the Draft?
