The offseason continues in full swing, and the San Francisco Giants are in the thick of things. They were given more defensive honors, and have a lot of rumors swirling around them.

The offseason awards continue to roll in for the San Francisco Giants, especially on the defensive side of things. A few days after Buster Posey, Joe Panik, and Brandon Crawford represented the Giants as Gold Glove award winners, Wilson released their own Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Wilson’s awards are just a tad different from Rawling’s Gold Gloves. Rather than having winners from both leagues, Wilson gives one award to the best defensive player in baseball at each position. The Giants received two individual honors.

For the second consecutive season, Posey was named the top defensive catcher by Wilson. Couple that with his first Gold Glove, and it’s becoming more and more apparent that Posey is the top defensive catcher in baseball. It’s probably well past time for Posey to build an addition to his house just for all of his numerous awards.

Crawford was honored with his second straight Gold Glove, and for the second time in his career, Wilson named him top shortstop. He was also given the award in 2012, but was still a couple years away from his first Gold Glove at that point. Now that the honors continue to roll in, Crawford is establishing himself as the top gloveman at shortstop, despite some very stiff competition from around the league.

Panik earned his first Gold Glove, but couldn’t beat out Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox for the Wilson award.

As a team, the Giants were named the Defensive Team of the Year.

Signings have already begun, with some veteran pitchers, like Bartolo Colon and R.A. Dickey, as well as a designate hitter in Kendrys Morales coming off the board. The Giants haven’t made a big splash yet, but they are working diligently to improve their team.

Giants’ officials have already met with representatives for all three of the big name closers, Aroldis Chapman, Mark Melancon, and Kenley Jansen. The team is aiming high to fix an area that cost the team dearly last year.

In addition to meeting with his reps, the Giants met with Melancon in person in San Francisco on Friday.

The front office is confident heading into the offseason. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo! Sports, a Giants’ official said the team is “getting one of the big closers”. That kind of confidence has to make Giants’ fans feel good about the offseason.

The team is exploring other options as well, as there were team reps at Greg Holland‘s showcase last week. Even if the Giants do get one of the top three closers, adding Holland seems like it would make for a good insurance policy.
