2006: St. Louis Cardinals

OK, he only pitched in 17 games in 2006 for the Cards, but former Athletics ace Mark Mulder logged some innings during St. Louis’ championship season thanks to Beane’s trade in 2004. And St. Louis’ closer during the 2006 season? Jason Isringhausen who was allowed to leave Oakland as a free agent in 2001 for compensation draft picks that were used on Ben Fritz and Steve Obenchain (yuck). At least that Mulder trade was a solid winner for the A’s. Beane’s ceaseless flipping of assets acquired in the Mulder deal over the years has left the team with a couple of players with distant ties to the tall southpaw’s time as an A’s asset: Yonder Alonso, Jed Lowrie and Jake Sanchez.
