FanSided is naming the best fanbases in the world, and the Oakland Raiders are nominees! Could they be the number one fanbase?

FanSided has started to introduce nominees for their first ever “Fandom 250” list, a ranking celebrating the best fanbases in sports, entertainment, among other things. Their first round of nominees includes a local team, the Oakland Raiders.

There may be no other fanbase in football as enthusiastic as the Raiders. The always rowdy Raider Nation fills the Coliseum in Oakland every chance they get, and the “Black Hole” down near the field is filled with face-painted, spiked shoulder pad-wearing super fans.

When you think of passionate fanbases in football, the Raiders just have to come to mind. They are as recognizable a bunch as they come, donning their black and silver as their boys on the field terrorize the opponents. The Black Hole is arguably as famous as any section in any stadium in sports. There’s even an official website for the Black Hole and those who inhabit it.

Even though the Raiders haven’t experienced great success lately, the fans have always stayed behind them and filled the Coliseum in support. But this year, with high expectations and a 6-2 record, the Raiders are rewarding their ravenous support system with high-octane offense and thrilling late-game victories.

Along with the Raiders, the following fanbases were on the first list of nominees:

  • Dallas Cowboys
  • Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Alabama Crimson Tide
  • Michigan Wolverines
  • Shonda Rhimes
  • Tyler Perry
  • Lena Dunham
  • Notre Dame Fighting Irish
  • Ohio State Buckeyes

If you’re not a Raiders’ fan, or a fan of the other nine nominees, fret not! FanSided will continue to unveil more nominees through the month of November, eventually culminating in the final rankings being released on December 6th. On December 6th, we’ll find out where the Raiders are ranked, and what other fanbases find their names on the list.

Stay tuned to FanSided to see if your fanbase is among the lucky ones to be named to the Fandom 250!
