Oakland Raiders: The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly vs. Chargers

The Bad: Couldn’t Stop the Rookie
With so much hype – and then drama – surrounding the third overall pick out of Ohio State, you knew he was going to come out fired up and looking to prove something. Joey Bosa has a long way to go in trying to repair his image in San Diego and make people forget the ridiculous contract dispute that had the much hyped rookie miss the first four games of the season.
Some of us cautioned that the Raiders would need to pay specific attention to Bosa and not let him be the sort of disruptive force he was in college.

Clearly, our cautioning fell on deaf ears. Or perhaps, the Raiders were just ill-equipped to handle him, given their depleted offensive line. Whatever the case may be, Bosa came out fired up and was a one man wrecking crew.
Bosa seemed to be everywhere. Even worse, he seemed to be making plays everywhere. And he did all of this on an extremely limited snap count.
In just 27 snaps of action with the defense, Bosa went off for a pair of sacks on Carr, five tackles (four solo), a pair of quarterback hits, and three tackles for a loss.
In very limited action, Bosa was – fairly dominant. He made mincemeat out of Oakland’s patched together line and made play after play. When Raiders radio broadcaster drew a comparison between Bosa and former Jets great Mark Gastineau early on in the game, many of us scoffed at it. By the end of the game, many of us were left re-evaluating that position.
It’s but one game, and Bosa has an incredibly long way to go before validating the Gastineau comparsion. But if he keeps playing the way he did against Oakland, it might not be such an invalid comparison after all.
