San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Game Day Open Thread
By Kevin Saito
The San Francisco 49ers will be in Seattle to take on the Seahawks – this is your open thread to talk all things 49ers.
Things seemed to be going well for the San Francisco 49ers last week. At least, they started out that way. They went into halftime against Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers trailing just 17-10. They were playing pretty well, all things considered.
And then the second half happened. And things got real ugly real fast.
Over the final 30 minutes of play, the 49ers were outscored 29-17 and wound up losing to the Panthers 46-27. It was a pretty stunning turn of events. While they weren’t dominating, by any stretch of the imagination, they were doing a good job of hanging with Carolina.
But by the end of the day, Chip Kelly’s team looked completely outclassed and overmatched. Quarterback Blaine Gabbert was horribly inaccurate and just out of sync. For the day, Gabbert finished 17 of 36 for 243 yards. He had two touchdowns, two interceptions, and completed the hat trick by taking two sacks.
By the end of the game, many began wondering when were going to see Colin Kaepernick under center for the 49ers.
San Francisco wound up being dominated in every facet of the game. They accumulated just 65 rushing yards compared to 176 for Carolina. Overall, the 49ers racked up just 302 total yards of offense while the defense surrendered 529 to the Panthers.
It was an ugly game, to be sure. Very little went right in the second half for San Francisco.
And now they’ll get to square off with a Seahawks team that’s injured, limping, yet still very dangerous. Seattle comes into the game 1-1 and coming off a game with the Rams that was – terrible. It was a game in which the Seahawks were held without a touchdown – scoring just three points in all.
In what could have been one of the most boring games ever played, the Rams beat Seattle 9-3.
Seattle will obviously, be looking to right there ship and get back on track. The 49ers are looking to establish their identity and win some games nobody expects them to. But to establish their identity, they’re going to need some better quarterback play and more than 34 yards rushing from Carlos Hyde.
There are a lot of questions surrounding this team but not a lot of answers just yet. How is this game going to play out? Can they surprise everybody and pull one out in Seattle? Or will the look more like the team that got run off the field against Carolina?
What’s the final score going to be? Time to call your shot. This is your place to talk about all things 49ers, so step on up, speak out, and be heard.
