Start Fast, Don’t Look Back

As dynamic as Oakland’s offense has been so far this season – and as the top ranked offense in the league, they have been dynamic – they’ve been a little slow to get out of the gate.

With both games so far this season, it’s been a tale of two halves for this Raiders offense. Through the first half of both games this year, this offense has seemed a little disjointed and out of rhythm. After halftime though, this team has been nearly unstoppable.

It’s telling that of the 63 points Oakland has scored so far this season, 46 have been in the second half of the game. And of those 46 second half points, 36 have been scored in the fourth quarter.

While it’s always a good sign when your team can move the ball at will and put up points in the second half of a close game, the Raiders need that sort of offensive effort in the first half as well. Had Oakland been able to score more than seven points in the first half against Atlanta, maybe they’d be sitting at 2-0 rather than 1-1.

The Raiders are loaded with playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. Derek Carr, Latavius Murray, Jalen Richard, DeAndre Washington, Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, and Clive Walford lead an attack as explosive as any other in the NFL. Offensively speaking, this team can run with anybody in the league.

But they need to get that ball rolling sooner. Oakland can’t wait for the second half to come alive in every game. Especially with the rate their defense gives up points.

For the Raiders to beat the Titans, they will need to start fast, get into their rhythm, put up some first half points, and keep that going to the end of the game.
