Athlon Sports ranked all 128 quarterbacks for FBS teams from best to worst, and California Golden Bears’ signal caller Davis Webb was ranked the 21st-best quarterback in the nation.

Coming off their opening week win against the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors, Cals’ quarterback Davis Webb received a pretty fair ranking among his counterparts in the FBS. On Wednesday, Athlon Sports put out their rankings for every FBS quarterback in the nation, and Webb was slotted in at number 21.

Athlon featured small profiles for each quarterback, and they had this to say about Cals’ graduate transfer:

"Jared Goff leaves big shoes to fill, but the late-spring addition of Webb should prevent a steep drop off at this position for coach Sonny Dykes. Webb left Texas Tech as a graduate transfer and has one season of eligibility remaining. The senior played in a similar offense with the Red Raiders, so the transition to California’s Bear Raid attack should be an easy one. In three seasons at Texas Tech, Webb threw for 5,557 yards and 46 scores. With Webb entrenched under center, the biggest question mark on offense for Dykes shifts to the revamped receiving corps."

Webb does indeed have big shoes to fill, playing after the most prolific passer in school history. Though he won’t have the time needed to equal Goff’s records of 977 completions, 12,195 yards, and 96 touchdowns, Webb enjoyed a nice debut in the first game of the season. Playing down under in Australia, Webb led the Bears to their third-straight opening week win.

The former Texas Tech Red Raider completed 38 of his 54 pass attempts, good for a completion percentage over 70 percent, for 441 yards and four touchdowns. He didn’t turn the ball over. Webb also scored once on the ground, matching Goff’s one career rushing touchdown.

The player that replaced Webb at Texas Tech, Patrick Mahomes, is ranked sixth-best in the nation. The junior is considered one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation, and led the Red Raiders to a 7-6 season last year.

Ole Miss’ senior quarterback Chad Kelly is ranked fifth. Senior Greg Ward of Houston is fourth. Ohio State’s junior J.T. Barrett slots in at third. Oklahoma’s junior Baker Mayfield, another former Texas Tech signal-caller, is second-best. The top-ranked quarterback in the nation is last year’s second runner-up in the Heisman voting, Clemson’s junior Deshaun Watson.

The highest-rated Pac-12 quarterback is UCLA’s Josh Rosen. He threw for 3,669 yards and 23 touchdowns while starting all 13 games as a true freshman in 2015.
