San Francisco Giants: 3 Possible Trade Targets
3. Seriously Any Relief Pitcher
The Giants need help in the bullpen, plain and simple. Santiago Casilla as a closer has provided mixed results at best for several years now.
No matter how you want to spit in, the Giants just don’t have a dominant or intimidating closer anymore. They really haven’t since 2012 Sergio Romo was floating sliders in with precision accuracy or Brian Wilson was…being Brian Wilson.
Thus far in 2016, Derek Law, Cory Gearrin, and Josh Osich have made theirmarks and looked good in most instances. The rest of the bullpen has left something to be desired, as Javy Lopez, Hunter Strickland, and Casilla have all been somewhat disappointing.
Next: San Francisco Giants: Plenty of New Additions
Sergio Romo and George Kontos, two past staples of the pen, have had lackluster outings in the few times they have been healthy enough to throw for San Francisco this year.
The Giants don’t need to necessarily go get a top closer like Aroldis Chapman, but they need to get something. It’s fair to say at this point none of the young guys are looking like a steadfast option in a pivotal eighth inning of a postseason game, and that’s where a veteran arm would come in handy.
The options are seemingly endless, as Andrew Miller, Arodys Vizcaino, Daniel Hudson, and many more are rumored to be available come the August 1st deadline. The Giants can survive with what they have, but if they want to reduce their late summer headaches, they would be wise to add an arm to their bullpen.
