San Francisco Giants: 3 Possible Trade Targets
- Carlos Gonzalez-OF Colorado Rockies
At this point, there’s not much to say about Carlos Gonzalez that hasn’t been said. In fact, I’ll let my own words from this time last season lead the way:
"Carlos Gonzalez was a big prospect for the Arizona Diamondbacks before being traded to Oakland and Colorado in the span of just a few short years. He had an amazing 2010 season, being in contention for the MVP and even the Triple Crown late into September. Gonzalez has since been hampered by injuries, and the Rockies have been left in the dust in the highly competitive National League West. It would make sense for the Rockies to try to get as much value as they can for Gonzalez while he’s still producing decently."

That Balls Outta Here
In essence, Gonzalez is an athletic outfielder capable of hitting for average, power, and playing all three outfield positions well. He has aged away from being a top blue-chip prospect for the Oakland Athletics, but still puts up solid numbers each year.
The Colorado Rockies have done a lot to improve over the years, but still haven’t gotten out of their own way and been productive enough to compete.
That means that come July, it’s likely there will be a lot of motivation to move the bigger contracts on the roster. Further pointing towards Colorado being willing to trade their veteran hitters is the emergence of future stars Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story over the last few seasons.
Though the Giants don’t necessarily have a plethora of farm players to offer, as a team who is in the midst of a title run, getting a veteran hitter who can cover all three outfield positions and is familiar with the NL West makes a lot of sense.
