April has come and gone, and May baseball has bloomed like the flowers that come from April showers. Unless you’re on the east coast, where Mother Nature has yet to turn the calendar and April showers are still coming down. But for the San Francisco Giants, baseball moves forward.

The Giants put together a winning week in the first full week of May, winning four out of their seven contests. They opened the stretch with two straight wins against the Cincinnati Reds in Great American Ball Park before dropping the finale, and split a four-game set that ran into the weekend with the Colorado Rockies at home.

The questions remain the same for the Giants, as the backend of the rotation continued to pull the team in the wrong direction through another week of games. The bullpen has shown a lot of improvement lately and the offense has proven that they can overcome an early deficit, but some changes seem imminent unless Jake Peavy and Matt Cain can stop the bleeding and improve upon being ranked as two of baseball’s worst starting pitchers early in the season.

A former Giant superstar, Tim Lincecum, finally held his showcase this week, and his services are available for teams that need him. A reunion is possible, but is it likely? Anyway, the Giants start a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays and their juggernaut lineup coming to town on Monday, then play four games in Arizona with the Diamondbacks before getting a needed off-day next Monday. Before we look ahead, let’s look back and recognize standout players and plays from the week that was.
