Hitter of the Week: Hunter Pence

How good it is to have Hunter Pence back in the Giants’ lineup. Pence was a catalyst during the Giants’ offensive surge this past week, and his presence back in the middle of the batting order has been a big boost to the guys around him.

More from San Francisco Giants

Pence collected eight hits in his 19 at-bats, including a pair of home runs (the one he hit Sunday was the first off Syndergaard all season) and drove in a team-leading 10 runs. Pence contributed three RBI on both Saturday and Sunday. He also worked five walks while striking out only three times, pushing his strikeout rate under 20 percent on the season. Pence also collected a double and a triple, and scored four times.

Overall on the year, Pence is the Giants’ leader in home runs (five) and runs batted in (22), looking like the offensive force he was before injuries derailed him last year. That thump was sorely missed, and Pence is proving why.

Brandon Belt also gets an honorable mention for his great week. He collected five hits in 15 at-bats, including two doubles and a triple, and drove in seven runs. Impressively, Belt took nine walks on the week, and struck out just four times. His .413 on-base percentage and .518 slugging percentage both lead the Giants.
