Giant Killer of the Week: Jake Lamb

There’s a pretty long list of players who just always seem to kill the Giants. Jake Lamb of the Arizona Diamondbacks is slowly but steadily climbing his way to the top of the list. He’s not quite Nolan Arenado or Enrique Hernandez yet, but he’s working his way towards that status.

In the Giants’ four-game set with the Diamondbacks, Lamb collected seven hits in 14 at-bats. Six of those hits went for extra-bases (four doubles, a triple, and a home run, which came on Monday with two outs and two strikes in the ninth that tied the game), and the lone single of the bunch was hit so hard off the right field wall that Lamb didn’t have an opportunity to take second base. He also drove in three runs and crossed home four times.

Lamb has wasted no time establishing his reputation as a Giant killer in his third season in the bigs. In his first taste of action in 2014, he went 4-12 with a double and home run in three games against the Giants. Last year in 18 games, he picked up 13 hits, including three doubles, a triple, and a home run, and drove in 10 of his 34 total runs.

Special nods can also be given to Lamb’s teammate Robbie Ray, who pitched six shutout innings, and J.T. Realmuto, who collected four hits on Sunday, including what turned out to be the game-winning home run.
